Avoid being stuck in a dangerous situation. Here are a few tips to keep in mind if you get locked out of your vehicle. Your best bet is to call a service. These methods are not guaranteed to work, however they good to know about.
1) Review the situation. If the car is sitting in a bad neighborhood, call the police to come and help unlock the car.
2) If a someone is available, call them to bring a spare key.
3) If the driver is not the owner of the car, call the owner for advice and ask them to bring a spare key.
The following are a stretch and require patience, precision and luck. The classic coat hanger method: Stretch out a metal coat hanger and make a hook on the end and then force the hanger down into the door between the window and the rubber seal until it reaches the door lock mechanism. Rotate the hanger so the hook is facing up. Once the hook is under the lock mechanism, pull up on the hanger to unlock the door. Or try using a thin wood block or door opener to wedge the door open just enough to insert a stretched out coat hanger. Work the wire coat hanger inside the door and push on the automatic door button to unlock the door.
Tennis ball method: Use a pocket knife or sharp object to cut a slit or poke a hole in the tennis ball. Then, place the opening in the tennis ball over the key opening on the door and push on the tennis ball. The air pressure forces the door lock up to unlock the door.
